Neumayer Station III also in 2025 via QO-100

DPØGVN is “on air” again and has a new, active operator.

What had happened?

On August 9, 2024, Jörg, DO5JL, last year’s IT engineer/radio operator at Neumayer Station III, had noticed during preparations for a school contact that no beacons were visible in the waterfall on the receiver (RX). A quick test showed that there was probably no problem on the transmitting side, but reception at DPØGVN was dead.

Despite a great deal of effort, he was unable to make a precise diagnosis and was therefore unable to rectify the fault with the available resources. Initial considerations included a defect in the LNB, but as no spare parts were available, all radio connections, including the planned school contacts, had to be canceled for the time being.

When the new members of the 45th wintering arrived in mid-November, the new IT engineer/radio operator Alex, DL2ALY, had spare parts with him and after a few days he discovered the main fault was a mechanical problem with the suspension of the antenna in the radome. He was able to solve it quickly with a compromise, so DPØGVN has been active again since November 22, 2024. He will carry out a final, stable repair on site by the end of February 2025.

We will start contacting schools again from the beginning of March 2025 and have already received the first inquiries. Contact only via: dp0gvn@amsat-dl.org

Alex, DL2ALY, is a very enthusiastic amateur radio operator who is very well versed in all operating modes, including satellite (LEO, MEO, GEO), as well as on all bands and will activate DPØGVN especially in the digital modes via QO-100. But of course he will always be there in his spare time.

He will try to appear on QO-100 from time to time, especially during the dark wintering period from April to November 2025 on Neumayer Station III, also just to have a lively chat without pile-ups.

Everyone is welcome to get in touch with him.

Charly Eichhorn, 3rd Chairman AMSAT-DL, Coordinator for School Contacts
